Hi a minor point of interest on the evolution of language. There was a time when rant denotated anger; the connotation was anger to the point of society. It is interesting that in the blogsphere there is nothing exceptional about your describing calm and extremely sympathetic literary criticism as a "rant".

Hmm, I tend to use rant for anything which is longer than the basic idea really requires.

Of course, that would define most of what I write in this blog.
