Giving the cat an enema

February 22, 2005

There is nothing that is quite like giving the cat an enema.

That is all.

Yuck. Hope the little bugger's OK.

One of our cats swallowed some string last week and needed to get it surgically removed. Since he wasn't recovering from the surgery as fast as the vet would have liked, he went back in for a rectal exam and an enema to flush any blockage out and get some fluid into him.

I made some comment like "My, you're going to be having some serious anal fun today, boy" while checking him in, and got some very sheepish laughs. You'd think vets would have heard all sorts of cat-butt jokes by now :-)

My personal favorite is:

Similar and yet not.... expressing the anal glands of a dog. (I used to work for a vet.)
Similar in nastiness, but where a cat will resent you forever and possibly poop in your shoes, the dog will be unbearably grateful and hump your leg for half a day.
Relief is in the tush of the beholder.

The poor cat gets impacted stool.

After a few vet visits we learned how to treat her ourselves.

Based on what I have seen with the geriatric cat, I am NOT looking forward to getting old. 15 in cat years means how much in human years?
